The most-read Taking Jesus Seriously posts
Here are Drew Hart's most-read posts of the year:
1) We aren't playing the race card; we are analyzing the racialized deck. Rather than zooming in on one card, we have zoomed out to look at all the cards together. You begin to pick up patterns.
2) Beyond a white privilege model. If I were white, and someone told me I had “white privilege,” I don't think I would know what to do with that.
3) The church and the kingdom of God. To have everything but Jesus is to be absent from the presence of the in-breaking reign of God.
4) Navigating the waters of post-Christendom visions. I can imagine at least three different ways people use the term post-Christendom.
5) Ten books. This isn't a perfect list, but it does represent books that have shaped me.
6) Renouncing "the Magic Negro" urge. We must continue to creatively leverage these systems—but for the betterment of all marginalized people, not just ourselves.
7) Black-on-black violence: Pastor Voddie Baucham's assault on black people. No Christian organization should ever participate in dishonoring the image of God in black people, especially at a time when so many black Americans are in pain.
8) Hate crime. In hegemonic imaginations, hate crimes could never be committed by everyday regular white American Christians.
9) My new blogging home. Hello to Century readers that aren’t familiar with me yet. And also, hey to all my old readers that (hopefully) made the jump with me to this new location.
10) A book review of Radical Jesus: A Graphic History of Faith. This is a book for those that are seeking to embody the radical witness of Jesus for their own time.
11) The time for justice is now. We cannot afford to merely remember the courageous actions and words of our heroes of the past.
12) A Samaritan gives thanks #BlackLivesMatter. African American Christians have come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord! For this I am thankful.
13) Unjust policies #BlackLivesMatter. When you deprive the poor and oppressed of justice, just remember that there is a judge who stands with the vulnerable and will set things right.
14) Jesus and the little ones. I have a three-year-old son, and it was impossible for me not to think of him as I heard about the violence inflicted on this small child's body.
