I see the Bible not as a textbook in science or history, nor as a Hallmark card bound in leather, but rather as a mentor that outlines the coordinates for life, providing a sense of place and a notion of where the still point lies. Like a real-life mentor, the Bible proves that we can trust it to bring us into a safe harbor—both along the way and when strength fails at the end.
