The Case for the Psalms, by N. T. Wright
Wright has an Anglican’s appreciation for the Psalms and a lifetime of experience using them in corporate and private worship. His formidable skills as a New Testament exegete serve him well in looking at Israel’s and the church’s prayerbook. His New Testament insights on the Psalms go deeper than a typological use of them or even an awareness of the New Testament’s use of the Psalms. The consistent use of the Psalms leads us to a new way of seeing, Wright maintains, one that prepares us for God’s unique entry into the world through Jesus. Wright also reminds us that the Psalms are poetry meant to be chanted or sung. He concludes with tips on using the Psalms and some reflections on how they’ve shaped his own faith and life.
