Union Seminary tops $39 million goal: New scholarships and endowments
The venerable Union Theological Seminary in New York, in dire financial straits a few years ago, topped its fund-raising goal of $39 million in cash, pledges and planned gifts at the start of this month, President Joseph Hough announced.
Among the campaign successes, Hough said, were the creation of 16 named scholarships with endowments of $250,000 or more, and 11 other endowed scholarships in the $50,000 to $100,000 range. The endowments supporting faculty chairs named for Reinhold Niebuhr and Paul Tillich, former faculty icons at the Manhattan campus, were increased.
